Survey finds 43 per cent think Trump should quit presidential race

A new survey, in the aftermath of a recording of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump describing how he liked to grope women, found 43 per cent of US voters said the New York real estate tycoon should quit the race.

The "rapid response" poll by ABC News and survey company SSRS found 57 per cent said Trump should stay in the race.

Dozens of prominent Republicans, including some of the conservative party's top members of Congress, have distanced themselves from Trump since Friday, when the 2005 video capturing a seemingly private conversation was made public.

In the recording, Trump describes trying to seduce a married television host, along grabbing women "by the pussy."

The ABC News survey found 53 per cent of respondents saying they were less likely to vote for him due to the revelations, while 46 per cent said it would not change their ballot.

Trump issued a video apology within hours of the video's revelation, and tweeted Saturday that he would "never drop out of the race."
