Suicide car bomber kills commander, six soldiers in Somali capital

A senior Somali commander and six other soldiers died Sunday after a suicide car bomber rammed his car into their military convoy as it travelled through the capital, Mogadishu, a military source said.

"It was a highly organized terrorist attack," said the source, who did not want to be identified.

The commander was identified as Major General Mohamed Jimale Rooble Goobale. The suicide bomber was also killed.

Witnesses reported a powerful explosion. Islamist group al-Shabaab claimed the attack on pro-insurgent radio Andalus.

Several soldiers were also injured, security official Mohamed Hassan said.
