Six killed by car bomb targeting police in south-east Turkey

Four police officers and two civilians were killed by a car bomb in south-eastern Turkey Monday, broadcaster NTV reported, as conflict in the area shows no signs of abating

The latest incident, which also left several people injured, took place in rural Diyarbakir province. The report said one civilian killed was a child.

The attack on a traffic police building was being blamed on Kurdish militants.

Turkey's government has ruled out a return to peace talks, which stalled early last year. A two-year ceasefire collapsed in July 2015, and according to the International Crisis Group think tank, 1,856 have since been confirmed killed.

At least 680 members of the armed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) have been killed along with over 630 members of Turkey's security forces. Hundreds of civilians have also died.

Kurdish militants and the state have been locked in conflict for more than 30 years, leading to more than 40,000 deaths, mostly in the largely Kurdish south-east of the country.

Many Kurds complain of systemic discrimination while Turkey sees the PKK as a terrorist group.
