Serbia to open 1st chapters in talks with EU in coming weeks

The Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Michael Davenport, said on Thursday that Belgrade would open negotiations on the first policy chapters within the process of accession to the European Union in the coming weeks.

The British diplomat was quoted by the Serbian national broadcaster (RTS) as saying that the opening of the first chapters would be a significan moment on Serbia's path towards the 28-strong bloc.

Davenport made this announcement at the presentation of the EU's COSME SME programme.

Serbia and the EU formally began the accession talks on 21 January 2014.
