Russia aircraft again flies near US military personnel

A Russian jet conducted a dangerously close flyby of a US aircraft Friday over the Baltic Sea, according to the US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.

A Pentagon spokeswoman in Washington said the Russian SY-27 approached closer than 10 metres in conducting a rollover manoeuvre, which the US called unsafe and unprofessional. The US aircraft at no time violated Russian airspace, the Pentagon said.

The incident comes within weeks of a similar Russian close flyby of a US naval vessel, the USS Donald Cook, in the Baltic.

The Pentagon said it was very concerned about Russian behaviour.
