Motorcycle bomb injures 10 near Istanbul police station

Ten people were injured in a motorcycle bombing Thursday near a police station in Istanbul, Governor Vasip Sahin said, adding that investigations were under way.

The large explosion took place about 2 kilometres from the Ataturk international airport, which itself suffered an attack in June resulting in the deaths of at least 45 people.

Broadcaster CNN Turk showed still photos indicating the explosion caused heavy damage to nearby vehicles, blowing out their windows and causing the frames to twist.

Security forces have increased checks in the Yenibosna neighbourhood, where the explosion took place. Reports said police were searching for one suspicious person.

The governor said only civilians were injured and there were no casualties among the police force.
