A shooting incident with reported religious extremists in the city of Aktobe, Kazakhstan ended in at least six casualties, the Interior Ministry said.
Approximately 20 individuals robbed two weapons shops, one of which was located on a military base of the national guard, before military and police opened fire.
"Due to the measures, one attacker was arrested. Three were killed, one injured," Interior Ministry spokesman Almas Sadubajew said, adding that some managed to flee.
An officer and a soldier of the national guard were killed in the fight along with an employee of a weapons shop. Nine other members of the national guard were injured in the fighting.
A terror alarm was put into effect in the city of 400,000 people in the north of the country, the Interfax news agency reported.
The individuals were "supporters of radical, non-traditional religious streams," according to the Interior Ministry.
