Leak links Argentina president's family company to Bahamas business

A holding company belonging to the family of Argentinian President Mauricio Macri appears linked to a business established in the Bahamas, according to information published Thursday by newspaper La Nacion.

The newspaper belongs to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), which yesterday released a new cache of leaked documents that provides the names of current and former politicians and others linked to more than 175,000 Bahamian companies registered between 1990 and 2016.

The new revelations from the ICIJ, which released the Panama Papers in April, shed light on past offshore investments linked to the Macri holding company and the children of ex-president Fernando de la Rua, who held office from 1999 to 2001, according to the Argentinian newspaper.

La Nacion reported that the Macri holding company and children of De la Rua appeared in new leaks for investments related to the development of online tourism and real estate. Both claimed that they made their participation in the companies known to the country's tax authorities.

Information released by the consortium also provides details on Bahamas operations held by politicians and businesses around the world, including former EU commissioner Neelie Kroes and former Colombian energy minister Carlos Caballero Argaez.
