Kurds say Turkish artillery hits their positions in northern Syria

Turkey has shelled positions of the US-backed, Kurdish-led Democratic Forces of Syria, in northern Syria, a senior official says.

"The posts which were hit were for the DFS and they are located in northern Minbij," Idriss Nassan says.

Meanwhile, the Britain-basaed Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that scores of civilians were fleeing Jarabulus, an Islamic State-town under attack by Turkey and rebel factions, and heading towards Minbij, a town recently seized from the extremists by the DSF.

Firat, a pro-Kurdish news agency, also reported Turkish shelling.
