Tel Aviv (dpa) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is flying to Rome on Sunday to meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry, his office confirmed.
He is returning to Israel on Monday, his office said, giving no immediate further details.
The US State Department confirmed that Kerry would travel to Rome on Saturday for the meeting to discuss Syria, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other regional issues.
The meeting comes amid heightened international efforts to revive the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The last peace talks, supervised by Kerry, broke down in April 2014. The international efforts include a French initiative, which however has been rejected by Israel.
Israeli media reported that after meeting Kerry, Netanyahu is scheduled to immediately return to Israel to meet with visiting UN chief Ban Ki-moon the next day.
