Islamic State claims Ansbach, Germany bomb attack

Islamic State says the perpetrator of the Ansbach bomb attack was one of its "soldiers," who was acting in response to calls to target member states of the international coalition fighting Islamic State.

The claim was published on channels on the Telegram messaging app in the name of the Aamaq News Agency, an Islamic State mouthpiece, and cited an unnamed "security source."

It came shortly after Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann revealed that the attacker, who injured 15 people and killed himself in Germany's first suicide bombing, had pledged allegiance to Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The claim, via Aamaq, is typical of how Islamic State has claimed responsibility for attacks in Europe and the United States in recent months.
