Iraq said on Tuesday it had summoned its ambassador to Portugal over reports that his two sons had assaulted a Portuguese teenager.
“MOFA summoned its Ambassador to Portugal to consult on the recent incident attributed to his two sons,” a spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter without providing further details.
Iraq said on Saturday it was working with Portugal to take “appropriate measures” on the issue.
According to local media reports, Ambassador Saad Mohamed Ridha’s twin sons, aged 17, allegedly beat the 15-year-old boy in the Portuguese town of Ponte de Sor last week.
The victim has since been in a coma, according to media reports.
Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva described the incident as "very serious."
