Hamas: Tel Aviv attack is Palestinian response to Israel's crimes

An Islamic Hamas movement official said on Wednesday night that the shooting attack in Tel Aviv that killed four Israelis is a response to the Israeli crimes against the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.

Mushir al-Masri, a senior Gaza-based Hamas official told reporters that his movement “blesses the attack which is a response to the Israeli crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.”

Earlier on Wednesday night, Israeli media reported that two Palestinian gunmen from Hebron went into a supermarket in Tel Aviv and began to open fire, where four Israelis killed and three injured.

An Israeli police spokeswoman said in a press statement that one of the two gunmen was injured and arrested and the other was arrested and he is under questioning.

The two Palestinians are from the village of Yatta close to the southern West Bank city of Hebron and are cousins, according to the police spokeswoman’s statement.

“This operation is carried out after a period of time, where some thought that the intifada of al-Quds stopped due to the arrests and the security cooperation, but it shows that the intifada is going on,” said al-Masri.

He went on saying that the intifada “will place horror and fear into the hearts of the Zionists,” adding “the attack was carried out to mark [1949] for occupying Jerusalem and shows that the Palestinians defend the city with their bloods.”

Meanwhile, Hamas said in an emailed statement issued in the West Bank that the two Palestinians who carried out the shooting attacks and killed four Israelis “are members in Hamas movement.”

Hamas didn’t directly claim responsibility for the attack, however, it said in the statement that the two attackers, Khaled Makhamra and Mohamed Makhamra, are the nephews of two Hamas prisoners in Israeli prisons.

The Palestinian left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said in an emailed statement that “the selective shooting attack in Tel Aviv and the two heroes who carried it out represent a new method in the Palestinian struggle.”

The attack “is a natural response to the daily Israeli violations, mainly the daily field executions of the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza and it is a message to the Zionists that armed resistance is the only means for gaining the rights back.”
