Five people have been detained in connection with a deadly fire at a southern Indian temple, police said Monday.
At least 106 people died and more than 300 were injured when firework display torched a store of explosives at the Puttingal Devi temple in Kollam district of Kerala state early Sunday.
Those detained worked for the two contractors responsible for the fireworks, a police official at the Paravoor police station said.
The temple is located in the coastal town of Paravoor. An estimated 10,000 people had gathered to watch the fireworks display.
One of the contractors was in critical condition in hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries, police said. The other was in hiding.
Police filed charges against 15 people including members of the temple board, local newspaper Malayalam Manorama reported.
