A fire erupted Saturday in a petrochemical plant in eastern Saudi Arabia, killing 12 workers, a local official said.
Eleven others were injured in the blaze, which broke out during maintenance works inside the factory in the Jubail industrial city, Abdel-Rahman al-Abdel Qader, the spokesman for a government commission in charge of the city, said.
Six of the injured are in a critical condition.
The victims suffered from suffocation as a result of the smoke caused by the fire, which was later put out, the official said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
