Emirates plane with 275 people on board makes Dubai emergency landing

An Emirates airline flight from Thiruvananthapuram in India made an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, but all 275 passengers and crew were safely evacuated, the Dubai government said.

A picture posted online by the Gulf News site showed a plane in Emirates livery with its fuselage on the ground and emergency chutes deployed.

Thick clouds of smoke were coming from the forward and middle sections of the fuselage, and fire and emergency vehicles were positioned around the aircraft.

Sources in Dubai airport said the pilot requested an emergency landing after a fire broke out in one of the Boeing 777's engines.

Flight EK521, which was due to land at 12:50 pm (0850 GMT), was involved in an "incident" at 12:45 pm, Emirates said.

"Our main priority at this time is the safety and wellbeing of all involved and full cooperation is being extended to the authorities and emergency services managing the situation," the airline said in a statement on its official Facebook page.

All departure flights from Dubai airport have been delayed until further notice, the government posted on its Twitter account.

Emirates said that it was expecting a four-hour network-wide delay.
