The US Embassy in Ankara urged US citizens in Turkey to exercise caution on Easter Sunday, citing Turkish media reports of threats against places of worship by the Islamic State extremist group.
The institutions - including churches, synagogues and diplomatic missions - are receiving enhanced police protection, Anadolu news agency and other media reported.
A suicide bombing, which authorities have blamed on Islamic State, hit Istanbul last week, killing four people.
Germany and other European nations have shut diplomatic missions and schools in the past two weeks over similar threats.
