Airstrikes on Syrian medical facility kill at least 14, group says

At least 14 people died amid airstrikes targeting a medical facility in southern Aleppo two days after a fierce attack on an aid convoy in the same city left 21 dead, a medical organization told dpa on Wednesday.

"Two nurses, two ambulance drivers and 10 patients were killed in the attack on the facility," Zaidoun Zoabi, chief executive of the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM), said.

The airstrike hit UOSSM’s Khan Touman medical triage point late Tuesday, destroying the facility and two ambulances, the organization said in a statement.

There are fears that there might be more victims under the rubble, it added.

"This is the worst day for me since I joined UOSSM. Two days ago, it was a humanitarian convoy, today it is us. Those attacks on people sacrificing their lives to help people have to stop. These are war crimes by all means," Zoabi said.

Founded in 2012, UOSSM is a coalition of humanitarian, non-governmental and medical organizations from the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Turkey.

The medical point provides triage and emergency medical services to approximately 750 wounded patients a month, according to the group.

The attack on the UOSSM facility came two days after a bombardment hit 18 aid trucks in northern Aleppo province killing at least 21 aid workers and civilians in an act that the UN said could amount to a "war crime."
