8 killed in Texas bus crash

A bus bound for a casino crashed Saturday in south Texas, killing eight people and leaving at least 44 injured, according to local media reports.

Citing local authorities, the Laredo Morning Times reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off the highway about 70 kilometres outside of Laredo, which lies on the Rio Grande river at the Mexican border.

The reason for the driver's error was not immediately known.

Seven victims were dead at the scene, and an eighth died later in a nearby hospital.
