Tourist arrivals, overnight stays increase in first 11 months

In the first eleven months of this year Croatia saw an increase of 8.2% in tourist arrivals and of 6.7% in overnight stays, and in November arrivals increased by 6% and overnight stays by 5.5%, the Tourism Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to preliminary results from tourism offices, 191,000 tourists vacationed along the coast and in Zagreb in November and they generated 472,000 overnight stays.

Foreign tourists in November generated 309,000 overnight stays, 4% up, while domestic tourists' overnight stays increased by 8.5%.

The largest number of overnight stays was reported by the City of Zagreb, 116,000 or 5.5% more than in November 2014. The capital city reported 62,000 visits in November, 3.5% more than in November 2014.

Zagreb is followed by the coastal region of Kvarner, where 35,000 tourists were registered in November (up 8.5%), and they generated 89,000 overnight stays (up 14%), and by Istria, where 26,000 tourists (up 5%) generated 83,000 overnight stays, a drop of 6% compared to the previous year.

Most foreign arrivals in November were from Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States, Korea, Serbia, Japan and Great Britain.

The ministry statement quoted Minister Darko Lorencin as saying that the increase in arrivals in November showed that the activities of the Tourism Ministry and the Croatian Tourism Board aimed at extending the tourist season, were already yielding results. The minister pointed to the fact that more and more visitors were interested in the country's interior, as evidenced by the example of Zagreb.
