Croatia's northern Medjimurje region has won the Swiss Tourism Award (STA) for the promotion of quality tourism, protection and positioning of natural and cultural heritage, promotion of competitiveness and excellence in services and products, and for presentation to the Swiss public, the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) has reported.
The award was presented to Medjimurje County and its tourism board at a ceremony at the IViaggiatori Swiss International Holiday Exhibition in Lugano.
Medjimurje Tourism Board Director Rudi Grula underscored the importance of this award, adding that this was the result of strong synergy between all stakeholders who had contributed to developing Medjimurje as an integral and sustainable tourism destination.
Presenting the award, Marco Pion underscored that Medjimurje applies the highest quality standards in developing its tourism.
He added that the Swiss Tourism Awards had been awarded since 2006 to destinations with an excellent on-line reputation and to destinations promoting sustainable types of tourism.
Congratulating Medjimurje on the award, HTZ director Ratomir Ivicic underlined that this showed the potential of Croatia's continental tourism.
