Int'l cured meats fair opens in Istria

Around 110 exhibitors, including 39 producers of traditional cured meat products from Croatia, Slovenia and Italy, gathered for an international salami fair at the Istrian town of Sveti Petar U Sumi on Saturday.

Opening the event, Tourism Minister Anton Kliman said that along with recognised olive oil, wine and prosciutto brands, the Istrian salami and other cured meat products, notably those from Slavonia, should be given brand names as well.

Calling for the establishment of producer associations as a way of boosting producers' market potential, Kliman said a task force consisting of experts from the ministries of tourism and agriculture had been formed a few days ago to facilitate such processes.

The partner at this year's fair at Sveti Petar U Sumi is Pozega-Slavonia County.
