Russia to appeal to CAS against Olympics suspension

Russia's athletics federation is to go the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to appeal against its Olympics suspension, the head of its Olympic committee, Alexander Zhukov, said in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday.

The appeal is in the name of all athletes who have never violated anti-doping rules, Zhukov said.

Zhukov was speaking at an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympics anti-doping summit, which underlined the IOC's support for the international athletics federation IAAF decision to uphold the ban on Russian athletics.

The summit also called on World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to convene a world conference on doping in 2017 and for sports federations to investigate doctors involved in doping as well as athletes.

The summit was held to discuss anti-doping measures and ways of protecting clean athletes ahead of the Rio Games.
