Real Madrid face Club America or Asian team to start Club World Cup

European Champions League winners Real Madrid will face either Mexican Club America or an Asian team to start their campaign in the Club World Cup later this year.

The draw was made Wednesday in Zurich for the FIFA December 8-18 tournament which this year is hosted in Japan.

The Asian Champions League holders will face Club America for the right to face Real Madrid, while South American champions Atletico Nacional have three potential opponents in their semi-final - the African champions, the winner of the Japanese League or Oceanic champions Auckland City.

The reigning champions of the tournament are Barcelona while Real are strong favourites to add to the 2014 Club World Cup they won in Morocco in addition to Intercontinental Cups from 1960, 1998 and 2002.
