Last 16 kicks off with Ronaldo wary of Croatian threat

The last 16 matches kick-off on Saturday with Switzerland facing Poland, before Wales play Northern Ireland, and Croatia face Portugal.

The Poles were many people's tip for a tournament dark horse but have disappointed in attack so far.

Robert Lewandowski is yet to score although Adam Nawałka's side are one of three teams yet to concede in the tournament.

Looking to be the first team to put one past them will be Vladimir Petkovic's Switzerland in Saint-Etienne.

The Swiss impressed in their final group game against hosts France but they have only won one of their last ten matches against Poland.

“We could have drawn Germany but Poland are very difficult to play against," said Swiss striker Haris Seferovic.

The Eintracht Frankfurt forward must wait to see if he comes back into the starting line-up for Switzerland's first knock-out game after Breel Embolo was picked ahead of him against the French.

In Saturday's second last-16 match Wales play Northern Ireland in Paris. Gareth Bale is tournament top scorer with three goals and, inspired by the Real Madrid forward, Chris Coleman's team topped their group ahead of England.

Michael O’Neill has just five Premier League player's in his Northern Ireland squad but after a famous win over Ukraine they did enough to qualify behind Germany and Poland, and Michael McGovern has been one of the goalkeeper's of the tournament so far.

In the final last-16 match to be played on Saturday Croatia face Portugal in Lens. Croatia won Group D with a dramatic final game victory over Spain but a meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo and company looks like scant reward.

Ronaldo scored twice in a 3-3 thriller with Hungary to ensure Portugal went through.

"Not every team manages to beat Spain," said Ronaldo. "They have done that so we have to respect them. But we know our worth and we will look them in the eyes."
