Kemboi disqualified from third place in steeplechase

Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi has been disqualified from the Olympic 3,000-metre steeplechase final for lane infringement, the ruling body IAAF says, costing him the bronze medal.

A jury of appeal determined that Kemboi had stepped outsside the track after clearing the water jump, upholding a protest from the French team.

As a result, France's Mahiedine Mekhissi is promoted to bronze from fourth behind Kenyan winner Conseslus Kipruto and American Evan Jager. However, Kenya could yet appeal the ruling and have Kemboi reinstated.

Kemboi, 34, a two-time Olympic and four-time world champion, said after the race he was retiring.
