Croatia captain Srna leaves Euro after father's death

Croatia captain Darijo Srna left the Euro Sunday after his father passed away, the national football organization HNS said.

The senior Srna, Uzeir, succumbed after a long bout with cancer around the time Croatia played its tournament opener against Turkey, winning 1-0, the daily 24Sata reported online.

Learning of his father's death after the match, Srna did not travel with the team to their camp in Deauville, France, but remained in Paris and was to return to hometown Metkovic for the funeral.

It was not immediately clear whether Srna would return to the squad for Croatia's next match Friday against the Czech Republic.
