Champions Leicester beaten in first match of new season

The new Premier League season kicked off on Saturday with champions Leicester suffering a 2-1 defeat at newly-promoted Hull City.

Robert Snodgrass fired the winner just before the hour mark to give caretaker manager Mike Phelan the victory.

Adama Diomande put Hull in front at the end of the first half when a shot by Abel Hernandez flicked off his foot and over Kasper Schmeichel.

Riyad Mahrez equalized from the penalty spot after a foul by Tom Huddlestone but Diomande won it for Hull with a fine strike.

Later on Saturday, new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will take charge of his first competitive game against Sunderland while Tottenham are also in action.
