Buzet wins title of European Town of Sport 2016

The Istrian town of Buzet was given the title of European Town of Sport 2016 at a ceremony held in the European Parliament last Wednesday.

The award was presented to Mayor Sinisa Zulic, Town Council chairman Damir Sirotic and local sports worker Mario Sirotic by the president of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES), Gian Francesco Lupattelli.

"We are very happy to see that our small town is part of this big family of European cities and towns of sport," Zulic said.

Buzet, located in the hinterland of Istria, has 23 associations practising many sports. Croatia's MEP Ivan Jakovcic congratulated the Buzet delegation at the ceremony in Brussels.

Apart from Buzet, the winners of the title were four Italian towns: Albenga, Asiago, Orbassano and San Vittore Olona, and the Spanish town of Calella.
