Croatia's high jumper Blanka Vlasic grabs bronze in Rio

Croatia's Blanka Vlasic came in third in the women's high jump event in Rio clearing the bar at 1.97 metres on Saturday, and thus added this bronze to the silver she won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while the title of the new Olympic champion went to Spaniard Ruth Beitia.

Beitia cleared 1.88m, 1.93m and 1.97m the first attempt, and the silver went to Bulgarian Mirela Demireva (1.97).

Non of athletes was able to jump over 2m. Chaunte Lowe, a perpetual contender without a global title, also cleared the same height as Beitia but fell just outside the medals.

Vlasic's bronze medal was the tenth Olympic medal for Croatia in Rio.
