Barcelona confirm signing of Cillessen from Ajax

Barcelona have clinched the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen from Ajax on a five-year contract, the Spanish champions said Thursday.

Barca will reportedly pay 13 million euros (14.6 million dollars) for the 27-year-old keeper, who played for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup.

Cillessen's last game for Ajax was Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Rostov in the play-offs for the Champions League.

In the Barca squad he would take the place of veteran Claudio Bravo, who is now expected to be sold to Manchester City.

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez had said said Saturday: "We have reached the beginning of an agreement with City (on Bravo). This will be made concrete when we have signed another goalkeeper."

Cillessen could make his debut for Barca Sunday away to Athletic Bilbao, given that the club's other keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is injured.

Cillessen continues a long tradition of Dutch players at Barca. He is the club's fifth summer signing, after Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes.

According to media reports, Barca are also close to signing striker Paco Alcacer from Valencia.
