Albania defeat Macedonia in World Cup qualifier

Albania defeated Macedonia 2-1 Tuesday in a football World Cup qualifier which had been abandoned the previous evening after a heavy rainstorm.

The Group G match in Shkoder, Albania continued from the 76th minute with the score at 1-1. Bekim Balez than scored the winner for the home side in the 89th minute.

On Monday, Armando Sadiku gave Albania the lead in the ninth minute before Ezgjan Alioski levelled for Macedonia six minutes into the second half.

Spain and Italy both also won their matches in the group the previous evening. Spain thrashed Liechtenstein 8-0 while Italy won 3-1 in Israel.

World Cup qualifiers in Europe continue Tuesday with nine games in Groups A, B and H including Sweden v Netherlands and Switzerland v Portugal.
