There has been a spike in people based in Britain researching the possibility of applying for an Irish passport following Britain's decision to leave the EU, figures from search engine Google showed Friday.
"+100% spike in UK searches for 'getting an Irish passport' after #Brexit vote," Google Trends tweeted.
By Friday afternoon, other Irish passport-related searches saw spikes.
"Irish passport renewal" was up by over 650 per cent; "Irish passport office" by over 400 per cent; "Irish embassy passport" by over 200 per cent; and "Irish passport" by over 190 per cent.
Millions of British people have Irish ancestry, and anyone with a grandparent or parent born in Ireland, an EU member, can obtain citizenship.
