China says ".cn" tops Germany to become world's top country domain

China's country code domain ".cn" is now the world's most commonly used, a state media report said Saturday. The domain had 16.36 million users by the end of 2015, topping Germany's ".de," Xinhua news agency cited new data from the China Internet Network Information Center. The domain is used by all central and provincial government websites in China as well as most telecom companies and commercial banks, Xinhua reported.  Multinational companies such as Apple Inc, Microsoft, Samsung and Amazon also own .cn domain names for websites aimed at Chinese consumers. Global country code registrations increased by 8.2 per cent in 2015 with, according to an industry brief by VeriSign.
