Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski has requested a meeting with the German ambassador in Warsaw, Rolf Nikel, on Monday over "anti-Polish comments by German politicians."
Several German politicians have questioned the constitutionality of laws passed in recent days by the new nationalist conservative government in Warsaw, including a controversial law that gives the government greater power over public broadcasters.
The European Commission has also criticized the new media law and plans to meet to discuss the issue this week.
The German embassy in Warsaw's spokesman, Lukas Wasielewski, said that the request from the minister was not a formal summons. "We expect a conversation between partners," he said.
The news was issued Sunday in a statement from Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Artur Dmochowski.
