Three dead, 11 injured in shooting rampage at Austrian concert

A 27-year-old man shot dead two people and injured 11 others at a concert in Austria before turning his weapon on himself, police reported Sunday.

The man had quarrelled with his girlfriend in the town of Nenzing in the western state of Vorarlberg during the night, they said.

After the row he fetched a gun from his car around 3 am (0100 GMT) and started shooting indiscriminately at the 150 people attending the open-air concert, which had been organized by a motorcycle club.

The girlfriend was uninjured in the rifle attack, police said.

Nenzing's Mayor Florian Kasseroler said the shooter ambushed his victims.

"People fled into the forest in panic," he told dpa.

According to the regional news portal Vorarlberg Online, some concertgoers also ran onto a nearby motorway.

"Probably 30 to 40 shots were fired, but I don't know exactly," Kasseroler said.

Authorities did not immediately have information on the condition of the injured.

"The gravity of the injuries is very varied," a police spokeswoman said.

The wounded were taken to hospitals in the region to be treated.
