Swedish airport terminal reopens after bomb alert

A terminal of an airport in western Sweden was reopened Thursday after a bomb scare temporarily caused police to evacuate part of the building.

A search of the domestic terminal of the Landvetter airport located near the west coast city of Gothenburg, did not result in any suspicious finds, police spokesman Hans Lippens told dpa after bomb disposal experts had completed their work.

Police were however continuing to investigate the threat that triggered the scare, he added.

Hans Wallin, spokesman for airport operator Swedavia that runs the Landvetter airport, told dpa that Swedavia had received word of "an external threat" mentioning the airport and police were therefore alerted.

Both Wallin and Lippens declined to offer details on the threat, but Lippens said there were no suspects at present.

Despite the threat, passengers on both domestic and international flights were still able to check in to flights, and no flights were diverted, Wallin added.

Security has been raised at European airports including in Sweden in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels.
