Report: Refugees storm Macedonian border fence

Hundreds of migrants, desperate after days of waiting to enter Macedonia from Greece, stormed the border fence at the village of Idomeni, Greek television reported on Monday.

The surge was apparently triggered by reports that Macedonia was going to open the fence and allow more people to pass and then to continue toward western Europe. "Free, free, we can pass," the migrants chanted.

Border police told dpa in Athens that the rumour was not true.

The refugee camp at Idomeni has become overcrowded since Macedonia started allowing only a handful of people to pass north while many more continued arriving from the south.
