Renzi's party concedes defeat in Rome mayoral elections

The candidate put forward by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party (PD) concedes defeat against the populist Five Star Movement in elections for Rome mayor.

"I am responsible for this defeat," PD candidate Roberto Giachetti says in a speech at his campaign headquarters.

"It is clear that [Rome will] have a mayor from the Five Star Movement called Virginia Raggi," he adds, naming his rival in Sunday's run-off vote.
