Police: Suspects on the run after Cologne shooting that injured one

One person was seriously injured in a shooting in the western German city of Cologne early Monday and the suspects are on the run, police said.

A police spokeswoman declined to specify the number of suspects and was unable to confirm the use of firearms, axes and knives in the altercation, which took place outside a central Cologne restaurant at about 3:45 am (0145 GMT), according to local newspaper reports.

Witnesses are being questioned by police and investigators are still in the process of securing evidence at the crime scene, the spokeswoman said.

The man wounded in the shooting was taken to hospital for treatment, police said, adding that the crime is being investigated by a homicide division given the extent of his injuries.
