Parts of German city on lockdown as armed man holes up in restaurant

Parts of the western German city of Saarbruecken were under lockdown Sunday as police tried to convince an armed man to leave a restaurant Dubrovnik in which he had barricaded himself.

Police have had no direct contact with the man, who is believed to work at the restaurant. He did force a restaurant employee to leave the building, they said.

"It looks as if he's alone in there," a police spokesman told dpa.

Police said there does not seem to be a political motivation to the incident. There are reports that the man's clothing is blood-stained.
