One dead, several injured in Dutch train accident

At least one person is dead after a train crash in the north-eastern Netherlands, said Han Noten, the mayor of the town where the accident occurred, on Dutch radio Tuesday.

Rail operator Arriva has said the deceased is likely the train driver.

Several people were also injured when a local passenger train collided with a mobile hydraulic platform that was crossing the tracks in Dalfsen Tuesday morning, causing several coaches to overturn, a spokesman for emergency services told Dutch radio.

The fire brigade was checking to see if there were still passengers in the train, he said. Most passengers were able to get off the train by themselves.

At the time of the accident, Arriva estimates there were 15 people on the train.
