Obama to meet with leaders from France, Italy, Britain in Germany

Three European leaders will travel to Germany on Monday to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama, officials said on Wednesday.

French President Francois Hollande, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and British Prime Minister David Cameron will convene with Merkel and Obama in Hanover to hold discussions on counter-terrorism efforts following attacks in Paris and Brussels.

"The president looks forward to discussing with these European partners our joint counter-terrorism efforts and the need to more effectively share information between our countries and within Europe," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Talks will also include the fight against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the European refugee crisis and Libya, the White House said.

Also on the agenda will be additional steps by NATO "to address challenges on Europe's eastern and southern periphery," including the situation in Ukraine, and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade agreement negotiations.

The discussions would be held in the afternoon at Schloss Herrenhausen, a spokeswoman for the German government said.

Obama will begin his trip to Germany on Sunday, meeting with Merkel for talks before jointly opening an industrial trade fair in Hanover on Monday morning.

Obama began an international trip in Saudi Arabia Wednesday and is also scheduled to travel to Britain for talks with Cameron before arriving in Germany.
