Eleven people, including children, were injured on Saturday during a lightning storm in Paris, according to police and local authorities.
Eight children and three adults were injured when they were struck by lightning, police said. A spokesman for the Paris fire department told local media that the children, aged 7 to 14, were celebrating a birthday in the park.
Six people were in severe and five in moderate condition, the police said. They were transported to a local hospital.
The group was in Park Monceau in north-western Paris when they were struck by lightning in the mid-afternoon, Vincent Baladi, deputy mayor for the 8th city district, told iTele. Baladi had previously said 10 of the injured were children.
Multiple parts of France have been issued weather warnings for the weekend, but the areas around Paris were not given a severe warning.
