Islamic State has sent more fighters to Europe, Belgium says

The Islamic State appears to have sent more fighters to Europe and Belgium, the country's coordinating unit for threat analysis said Tuesday, four weeks after attacks in its capital Brussels for which the extremist group claimed responsibility.

Authorities believe that the investigation into the March 22 attacks, which has resulted in a slew of arrests, delivered a blow to the terrorist cell responsible for the bombings.

But a danger remains, the director of the OCAM threat analysis unit, Paul Van Tigchelt, was quoted as saying at a press conference by the Belga news agency.

He said the unit had received information about the Islamic State deploying more fighters to Europe. More details were not immediately available.

OCAM, which independently sets the threat level in Belgium, decided that it should remain at level 3, the second highest step. It indicates a possible and likely threat.

The March 22 attacks, which targeted the Brussels international airport and an underground railway station in the city, left more than 30 people dead.
