Hundreds of migrants attempt push from Greece to Macedonia

Several hundred people have left the refugee camp in Idomeni, Greece, and are making a break for the border fence between Greece and Macedonia.

A dpa reporter saw a group of mostly Syrians, Iraqis and Afghans cross the swollen river Crna Reka near the village Chamillo, some 4 kilometres west of Idomeni and 500 metres from the border.

The group skirted or went through a border fence constructed by Macedonia in recent months to control the migration flow.

Greek police arrived at the scene, reportedly pointing out to the migrants that their attempt was doomed, as Macedonian police were already waiting for them on the other side, immediately returning all who crossed.
