Hollande to meet with Merkel before EU summit with Turkey

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet with French President Francois Hollande in the lead-up to a European Union summit with Turkey, the Elysee Palace announced Tuesday.

Merkel will travel to Paris on Friday for the meeting, the Elysee said. The goal is to prepare for a meeting of heads of state and government that will take place in Brussels on March 7.

The summit will focus on migration, with Turkey being the last stop for many migrants before reaching Europe. The 28-country bloc expects to cooperate with Ankara to curb the number of people fleeing to toward the continent.
