European countries must get better at connecting and sharing data collected by their national authorities, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere says in reaction to the Brussels terrorist attacks.
Foreigner registration offices, visa authorities, police and intelligence services are still keeping their data sets separate, the minister says on German public channel ZDF.
"The most important tool for prevention is information. We have to share the information that we have," he says.
Privacy protection rules have been the main obstacle for data sharing, he tells German broadcaster ARD.
