A mother and her three daughters were injured Tuesday in a stabbing attack committed by a man who was later taken into police custody, officials said.
The man's motive was unclear, local prosecutor Raphael Balland said at a press conference. Balland dismissed rumours that the man, of Moroccan origin, had committed the knife attack in reaction to the cloths worn by the woman and her daughters.
The attack occurred in the morning. According to local newspaper Le Dauphine Libere, an 8-year-old girl was taken to a hospital near Grenoble while her 12- and 14-year-old sisters and mother were taken to a local hospital.
The family had vacationed for days in a lodging next to the man who committed the attack, Balland said. The man, 37, was being held by police and would undergo a psychiatric examination, he said.
France is still reeling from a terrorist attack in the seaside city of Nice, in which a truck ploughed into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day last week and killed 84 people.
