Final results in German state elections

Elections in three German states on Sunday disappointed Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) and delivered major gains for the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD).

BADEN-WUERTTEMBERG:

Greens 30.3 per cent (47 seats)

Christian Democratic Party (CDU) 27 per cent (42 seats)

Alternative for Germany (AfD) 15.1 per cent (23 seats)

Social Democratic Party (SPD) 12.7 per cent (19 seats)

Free Democratic Party (FDP) 8.3 per cent (12 seats)

RHINELAND-PALATINATE:

SPD 36.2 per cent (39 seats)

CDU 31.8 per cent (35 seats)

AfD 12.6 per cent (14 seats)

FDP 6.2 per cent (7 seats)

Greens 5.3 per cent (6 seats)

SAXONY-ANHALT:

CDU 29.8 per cent (30 seats)

AfD 24.2 per cent (24 seats)

SPD 10.6 per cent (11 seats)

Left Party 16.3 per cent (17 seats)

Greens 5.2 per cent (5 seats)
